All about Tau Fu Fa

This delicious dessert in Chinese is called “豆腐花”, read as “doh fu hua” in Mandarin and “Tau fu fa” in Cantonese, translated as tofu flower.
Tau fu fa is believed that to have originated in ancient China during the Western Han Dynasty. But the true of tau fu fa is the prince Liu An’s unexpected invention, the grandson of Emperor Liu Bang. Then, Liu An went deep into the mountain to purify the immortal pills because he was studious the magical art of immortality. However, Liu An failed to produce the immortal pills, instead, after he combining the bittern with bean juice, a pile of white and tender material with attractive fragrance was produced. It is known as tau fu fa.


Tau Fu Fa, as it is a very common and popular dessert in Ipoh and perhaps other areas of Malaysia. It is also known a healthy dessert for old and young peoples. Nowadays, walk down any markets or streets one can always find sellers selling tau fu fa and it is freshly made each day. Tau fu fa is best served the same day it’s made, so now can conveniently buying for share and enjoy it with friends and family.
